Living & Active

3 Powerful Truths for 2025

Good Monday Morning.

New year’s bring promise of change and growth that’ll be found and felt in new people, new experiences and new things…Yet, in whatever’s new and awaiting in 2025, what’s not new, has always been and will always be needed is the Word of God - the Bible.

Hebrews 4:12 is a favorite passage that reminds us of the importance of God’s Word in our life:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 ESV
  • Living: God’s word, the Bible lives and moves throughout life, with us. The words don’t change from year to year, but how we understand, relate and are instructed by them deepens and changes. For example, “The Lord is my Shepherd” from Psalms 23 are words I, like many memorized as a kid. But I’ve experienced their power in different ways throughout the years of my life. The Lord’s been my shepherd through health challenges, emotional hurts, teenage social awkwardness, selecting a college, while in college, getting a job, losing a job, dating, getting married, becoming a dad…life. The words haven’t changed, my understanding and their emphasis has, because the word of God is alive through all life’s changes.

  • And Active: God’s word doesn’t just live and walk with us throughout life its also active. “Active” in the original Greek language the author of Hebrew’s used, meant - to produce something. As a pepper mill a waiter uses at a restaurant grinds up a hard, round inedible peppercorn until it produces fresh pepper on your meal, God’s word takes raw hurts and realities and actively produces something in, for and through us.

  • Sharper than:God’s word is also sharper than a sword for war. Like a surgeon’s scalpel, the Bible has ability to weed through our defenses and wrestlings of mind to discern, explain and reveal the thoughts and intentions of our heart - with surgical precision.

For everything that has happened and what awaits, either positive or not so positive in 2025, increase your time in God’s Word. The words of God continually meet and lead us along life’s path. They produce in us what we can’t make happen on our own and they tell us the truth about our feelings and total self.

So, regardless of your current Bible reading pattern, add a few minutes reading God’s Word, to your life daily in 2025 and let God guide and shape you as it’s truths grow, produce and reveal God’s wisdom to you in every needed and imaginable way. Happy New Year
