You Don't Understand Now...
Trusting Christ in the tough things of life
Happy Monday!
In everyone’s life, tough things happen. Regardless how well we take care of ourselves mentally, physically and emotionally, life still comes with tough stuff. So then, when not if the tough stuff comes, the power of a believing man is his faith - in Christ.
Faith can be placed in any and everything, only faith in Christ sustains us and makes sense of the low points of life. Faith in Christ gives a man understanding that there is a way forward, up and or over - from here. And, we thank God that faith tells us we don’t have to nor in many cases can we even know how to move forward, except through our faith in Christ.
That is the case the guy we Eagles fans call “QB1”, winner of the recent Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP, 🏆Jalen Hurts. After winning the Super Bowl last week, he shared the Bible verse that has shaped and strengthened him in times like being benched in the 2018 College National Football Championship, to watch his backup win the game, or the narrow 2023 Super Bowl loss to the Kansas City Chiefs where he was both applauded for how he played and blamed that the team lost 🤷🏾. Who knows he may have a few other life and personal things he would throw in there too but through all of life’s disappointments, he credits John 13:7 as his favorite Bible verse:
Jesus answered him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”
Those were the words of Jesus when He humbled Himself to wash the feet of His disciples. It was a move that completely flipped the script on the trends and culture of their day. To them, and maybe in our thinking today, a leader, someone with authority was to be served not one that served others. His humility made no sense to the way of thinking at the time.
What they did not understand in that moment was that Jesus was teaching them a valuable lesson of humility as well as modeling how they should display the same. It was a lesson they had to experience then but that also would not make sense until later down the road.
Walking with Christ is often that way, Christ is teaching us in the now what we won’t get until we walk a little further down the road with Him. The encouragement is that in the losses, embarrassments, disappointments, etc… of now, keep studying praying and following Christ in what He is doing that you do not understand now. Because, afterward you will understand. Praise the Lord for peace - now.
That’s it. I pray this week’s newsletter was a blessing. If you know of a brother that could benefit from today’s newsletter, send it to them.
