You are the Man...

Friends that tell the truth

Good Monday Morning!

I’m of the thought most people aren’t as much whatever negative label (jerk, mean, obnoxious…) placed on them as they are just - not self-aware. If I thought something I was going to say was hurtful or going to offend, I probably wouldn't say it. But I didn’t realize there was something wrong with what I was about to say, so I let it out. Now we got a mess.

Whatever role we are in as men, we are at a minimum susceptible to being unaware of how our words, actions, deeds, attitudes, etc… impact people. When we walk in a room or I guess even more so when we leave a place, is it better because we are or were there and made a positive impact or did we torch the place and leave the place ruffled in ways we don’t even get?

What I find is it’s really hard to see and be real about who I am from where I sit. So it becomes necessary to be surrounded with or at a minimum have 1 person that will tell you the truth. 🤣🤣🤣 Do you have friends that will tell you, you have mayonnaise on your chin or umm, hey buddy you have something in your nose 🤣🤣🤣?

This is a good time of year to evaluate our “team”. Not for the purpose of kicking people out of our circle. But maybe we need to recalibrate time we spend and depth of conversations we have with those in our circle.

Nathan said to David, “You are the man! Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel, ‘I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you out of the hand of Saul.

2 Samuel 12:7

In 2nd Samuel, after David slept with Bathsheba, another man’s wife, Nathan, a lesser known Bible figure but David’s friend, pointed out his sin, by telling him plainly, “You are the man”. Surely, David knew what he did, but Nathan held him accountable, letting David know what he did with Bathsheba was known and then Nathan most importantly - pointed David back to God.

Nathan is the kind of friend that makes a man a better man for God’s point and purpose:

  1. Holds accountable

  2. Tells the uncomfortable truth

  3. Points a friend back to God

Hey, in a world that seemingly takes, depletes and adds stress, let’s make this a matter of prayer. Begin asking the Lord to send Nathan type people into your life that hold you accountable, tell the truth not just about mayonnaise on your chin but about the Lord 😇

Ultimately we’re responsible for our own walk with the Lord, yet the Lord is faithful to help us along the way, with people that’ll help us become more aware of where we are in Christ.

That’s it! Have a blessed week in the Lord and I pray today’s newsletter was a blessing. Read more about David and Bathsheba: 2 Samuel 11-12:15
