Strong Man. Weak Man.
Becoming strong when we are weak
Good Monday Morning! This week I want to share 1 powerful insight the Lord has blessed me with from Daniel’s life.
One of the more familiar stories of the Bible is Daniel in the Lions Den. The story goes like this, Daniel’s jealous peers convinced king Darius to sign a law: that for 30 days, anyone praying to any god or man but King Darius be thrown into a lions den.
Daniel continued to pray to God, so he was thrown into the lions den. But, God demonstrated His power and faithfulness by not allowing the lions to devour Daniel. As much as it reflects God, it’s also a powerful story of Daniel’s incredible faith. All he had to do is not pray to God - but he didn’t, he couldn’t. It’s an amazing reflection of his faith to risk it all and trust the Lord. But here’s what has really blessed me the last few weeks.
If we piece together the timeline of events (by the year of the king’s reign), Daniel was displaying great depth of faith which landed him in lion’s den, AND at the same time he was also personally terrified, overwhelmed and sick by the uncertainty of the visions and dreams the Lord was showing him. “And I, Daniel was overcome and lay sick for some days. Then I rose and went about the king’s business, but I was appalled by the vision and did not understand it.” Dan 8:27
Daniel was both strong and weak - at the same time. Strong enough 💪🏽 to trust the Lord in the lions den but weak enough 🥴to become sick and overwhelmed - at the same time. I see myself in Daniel, because at times in my life, I’ve let my “weak” shut down my strong. My personal inner wrestlings have canceled my ability to display God’s strength.
Daniel’s strength in his weakness brings me to ask, Would I stand strong for the Lord knowing it would put me in a difficult situation - like a lion’s den 🦁or would I shrink and go along with the king’s order because of personal emotions going on - inside? Am I strong in the things of the Lord while also having personal tension?
It’s the old saying, “It’s hard to be BIG when little has you”
As I pray and grow in this thought personally, I encourage you to give it some thought in your own life and prayer. Are there moments where emotions & feelings cancel your spiritual strengths?
That’s it! I hope today’s newsletter helps you see the Lord clearer in your life. Have a great week.
