005 Labor Day: Rest in Christ
Christ Give Rest for the Soul...
Good Monday Morning!
Happy end of Summer 🥲I mean Labor Day. As many rest from work today, you’re invited to spiritual rest in Christ.
Man of the Week: John the Baptist. In Matthew 11 Jesus responds to John who like we can be, is confused about what Jesus is really about. John & Jesus were 2nd cousins, so John knew Jesus. He also missed what Jesus was really about. Now when John heard in prison about the deeds of the Christ, he sent word by his disciples and said to him, “Are you the one who is to come, or shall we look for another?” Matthew 11:2-3
Jesus concludes His answer to John’s question with what’s also referred to as the Great Invitation.
Verse of the Week: Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30
Come Unto Me: In conclusion to John’s confusion Jesus invites all to Him. From John’s jail & our own tough place, Christ’s resets perspective for the tired & burdened.
Give You Rest: Reality is real. John’s in jail. Yet Christ gives rest. Christ’s rest isn’t relegate to place or situation. Your reality may stay real, Christ gives rest in it.
Take: Open Christ’s invitation. Keep learning of Christ as life’s priority. Take hold of Him for real: what He does, what He’s about, who He is.
Find Rest: “…and learn from me…and you will find rest for your souls” Your rest isn’t lost, it’s found in learning Christ.
Easy & Light: John’s in jail, life is hard, and to us all, Christ gives easy & light - in life’s realities - to all who take Him.
As I finish writing at a coffee shop, a woman sees my Christian shirt & starts a conversation. ”We moved from California 2 weeks ago to be with our son who’s a freshmen at “xyzUniversity”. My husband was uncomfortable with him going so far from home…”. Her unrest was visible & she shared 3x “It’s complicated”. And to us all in our own “it’s complicated” context…stands Christ’s Great Invitation. May you find rest for your soul in Christ 😇
