Aging Gracefully

Six Passages to Help Us Age Gracefully

Good Monday Morning!

Denzel is 70, football coach Herm Edwards is 70. Bruce Springsteen and Samuel Jackson are 75. And Morgan Freeman is still acting at 87.

Recently seeing these men do what they do at a high level has me thinking about how I want to age gracefully. To age gracefully is a relative idea that really belongs to each man’s perception. While it can be the way we look, money we’ve piled up, material stuff or just a good report from the doctor - aging gracefully is relative.

We can give ourselves high or low scores of how we are aging, it’s how we age or mature in the sight of the Lord that really matters. Here then are 6 passages of Scripture to consider in prayer to shape decisions and how you’ll live - now.

  1. Hearing God Say: …‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’ Matthew 25:21

  2. What’s Important: Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun?Ecclesiastes 1:2-3

  3. Recognize His Faithfulness: have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.Psalms 37:25

  4. Your Legacy of Faith: When David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, “I am about to go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the charge of the Lord your God, walking in his ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn 1 Kings 2: 1-3

  5. At Any Age: When Abram was ninety-nine years old the Lord appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless, that I may make my covenant between me and you, and may multiply you greatly.” Genesis 17:1-2

  6. Finish Right: But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.Acts 20:24

That’s it! I hope you get/make time this week to dive in to these passages and pray for how God wants to age you with His grace. Have a great week!

Edward
