006 A Man Without Regrets

Good Monday Morning!
Regret: from the girlfriend we still wonder if we should’ve married, the career or business decision we now wish we would’ve decided differently, the trusted friend that later proved wasn’t trustworthy, the sport or skill we could have excelled in if we tried harder or the thing we had to have, paid a bunch of money for and now is old & outdated…add or subtract your own situations but the point is, we are at a minimum susceptible to points of regret.
My own familiarity with regret is what makes David’s words in Psalm 51, after he had been confronted with his sin with Bathsheba, all the more powerful and helpful - to me.
For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your judgement. Psalms 51:3-4
David could’ve, maybe should’ve regretted some of what happened in his life. But when he spoke the words of Psalms 51 - he didn’t (regret). 5 reasons David should/could’ve had regret:
Committed adultery with Bathsheba - another man’s wife
Took Bathsheba as his own wife, had 2 children with her, one of which died because of his sin
Put Uriah, Bathsheba’s husband in battle position where he was likely to be killed.
Counted available soldiers as an apparent mistrust in the Lord’s ability to provide.
His son Absalom wanted to kill him!
Surely if we could ask David, there’d be more. Point is: David had at lest a few reasons to regret. But, he didn’t. Instead, in Psalms 51:3-4 [above] David was both aware of his moral failures, his sins, but also his position with God. 💥For all the reasons David could’ve had regret, there is only one reason why he didn’t.
Relationship with God. Read Psalms 32 😇
The only reason, he and even we find peace in the journey of our life is our position, our standing and walking with the Lord. For every reason that you’ve felt deserved to regret, see that David found freedom in his own complicated life by repenting and restoring his relationship with the Lord. Read Psalms 32 😇. Only then, even after “taking” married Bathsheba and seeing her husband Uriah killed, could David say to the Lord, Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight…
Prayer Starter: Lord, bring me to a place of freedom from any and everything that I’ve come to regret. Cause me to have peace in knowing its to you only I’ve sinned. Restore me in your sight…
